Cross the Line
By Beth Cutwright
Once again I feel very blessed to have read Cross the Line by Jack Patterson. No, it wasn't a religious book by any means, but it dealt with issues of right and wrong and when to get involved in someone else's story and when to walk away. Cal Murphy, a sportswriter, accidentally unearths information that Noah Larson's son has been kidnapped in order to force Noah to throw the Seahawk vs Dolphin Super Bowl Game. When approached to confirm rumors about a fix being in, he admits what he has learned to his FBI friend. Whether the guilt of having shared the information with the FBI against Noah Larson's pleas for silence, or whether to assist in Jake's rescue was just the right thing to do, Cal Murphy and photographer friend Kelly Mendoza, risk everything to help save Noah's six year old son.
The writing seemed to flow gracefully and made the book an easy read. I read it in one sitting and I enjoyed it. The suspense built constantly and it became a book I couldn't put down. I wanted to continue until we knew who the top dog was behind this ruthless kidnapping! The characters were strong and believable and I felt their fears and pains down to my toes. I felt their relief and their shock as what seemed to be over, wasn't.
I was provided a copy of this book by the author's representatives in exchange for an honest review of the book.

It's all about taking risks
By Sara Hadi
Patterson's Cross the Line took me way back to my school years when the fiction reading craze was wild and fresh inside me, and characters like Cal Murphy made a strong and lasting impression, and not to mention a certain fan induction, along the way. This book has the perfect amount of everything a good thriller should have:
Noah Larson has been one of the best football athletes Seattle has ever seen, but now he has finally had the nerve to tell his socialite wife that he will retire after the last Super Bowl game, and he can't take his word back. The NFL quarterback has everything planned out for his team and of chances of success as he waves goodbye to his six year old son. Then suddenly, everything spins out of control when he finds out that his son has been kidnapped. The rules are simpler yet: he can either lose the game or be responsible for his son's death.
This is where the sportswriter Cal Murphy and photographer Kelly Mendoza come in- it was all just an initial mess up with the FBI until they got involved in saving Noah's son, who happens to be somewhere in Mexico. This goose chase in turn threatens their lives and that of Noah's son, and ultimately results in the Super Bowl's victory resting on their trembling shoulders.
Reading Cross the Line was just as fantastic as reading Cross Hairs, and I'm already looking forward to another Patterson mystery.
